ITEN 2nd ThursdayDate: September 11, 2014 Time: 4:00pm Location: Washington University, Simon Hall 106; this month only
September 11th, 4:00pm Please note: This month’s 2nd Thursday event will be held at Washington University, Simon Hall 106 Our guest speaker on September 11th is Yasuyuki Motoyama, PhD., Senior Scholar at the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation. He will be reporting the results of an on-going research project. Kauffman has done a case study of the startup ecosystem in the St. Louis area. St. Louis was chosen for this study because it is a region that has not been known as a hub of entrepreneurship, but has been experiencing a substantial transformation and rapid development of its local entrepreneurship ecosystem. Different levels of connections were identified and studied: connections between entrepreneurs, connections between formal support organizations, connections entrepreneurs have with key support organizations, and the connection of entrepreneurs to other forms of miscellaneous support such as other entrepreneurs in the area, periodic entrepreneurship-oriented events, or other miscellaneous organizations. It will be fascinating to hear the results of Kauffman’s scientific study of the St. Louis startup ecosystem, and learn how we can use their research to move things along more effectively.
Yas’ presentation will be followed by a panel discussion and questions from the audience. Our panel will be:
- Ginger Imster, Executive Director of Arch Grants
- Cheryl Watkins-Moore, Director of the Bioscience Inclusion Initiative (BII) of BioSTL
- Ken Harrington, outgoing Managing Director of the Skandalaris Center
- Jim Brasunas, Executive Director of ITEN
Free parking for the 9/11 2nd Thursday will be in the garage beneath the Danforth University Center (DUC). At Simon, you will be given a free parking pass to use when you leave the garage.

Usually held at the Tavern of Fine Arts, 313 Belt Ave St. Louis 63112, just off Pershing between Union and DeBalivere, but will be held at Simon Hall of Washington University on September 11th for the special presentation of Kauffman Foundation’s research results.
